Fetal Presentation ultrasound scan
35 Weeks - 42 Weeks
It is important to know which part of the baby is presenting first to the maternal pelvis. In normal circumstances it is usually the baby's head will be the presenting part. Sometimes the baby presents with the bottom first, i.e. breech presentation. Less commonly the baby may be lying across the mother's abdomen and obviously can not be delivered normally as such. Knowing the presentation prior to onset of labour will avoid problems of unexpected and unfavorable situation in labour i.e. undiagnosed breech at full cervical dilatation. All this can be revealed and diagnosed with ultrasound scan. Fetal growth profile is performed also during the scan. Fetal anomalies are looked for as well as placental and umbilical cord abnormalities i.e. placenta praevia and vasa praevia during this ultrasound scan.
